"I would highly recommend Programmed to other schools. They provide a good service, complete the work in their estimated time frame, communicate well through the whole service and ensure they are providing what is requested."

Opened in 2008, Gilmore College is an independent public school in Kwinana that is strongly committed to creating a culture of high performance, care and lifelong learning.

Project Description

A key objective at Gilmore College is to provide a safe and engaging learning environment based on high expectations and high care.

Although constructed just over a decade ago, the College’s buildings were already needing a refresh. The paint was peeling as earlier paintwork had not been correctly applied or sealed. The effects of exposure to severe weather had compounded these, while walls were heavily covered in graffiti.

Gilmore College asked Programmed for a maintenance solution that could specifically address these issues. They wanted school buildings that presented well so that students would have a positive environment conducive for learning.

Project Solution

Prior to any repainting works, all concrete surfaces were sandblasted and stripped of existing paint. Much of this involved work at very high heights, so safety was crucial. Works were conducted during the school holidays when students were not on site.

Programmed began work in December, and when staff returned early mid-January, we worked around both the faculty and cleaners for the last two weeks of the job, finishing the project in time to give the school a few days to spare before students returned at the start of Term One.

In total, the exterior of nine buildings were painted. This included some striking decorative feature walls on the gymnasium and the administration blocks. We worked closely with Gilmore College to determine a suitable colour palette that matched the school colours of blue and gold. A grey was used as a base to highlight the school colours and an anti-graffiti protective coating was also applied to help the school maintain its new clean aesthetic.

Programmed also undertook some signage work, helping Gilmore College to install banners the school had produced but not put up of its school houses and core values. The convenience of accessing our multi-service capability meant that Gilmore College could incorporate this as part of the work while our team was on-site.

In addition, as access equipment for the project was already on site, utilising Programmed to undertake this additional work was easy and cost effective.

Project Outcome

Tracy Hughes, Corporate Services Manager at Gilmore College was very satisfied with the services provided.

“Throughout the whole project, Programmed maintained extremely good communication, ensuring the wants and needs of the school were understood and provided support and advice.”

Principal Rohan Smith shared Tracy’s views on the project and was extremely impressed by the quality of the work undertaken and the finish provided.

Gilmore College is currently exploring the further possibility of engaging Programmed for interior painting to complete the transformation of the entire school, as well as for signage and ground maintenance.
