Delivering the right people at the right time

Countrywide

Programmed has a long-standing relationship with an Australian premium global drinks company and historically at its site in regional Victoria. We place up to 230 employees on-site in any given week across this site’s warehouse, cellar and packaging departments.

Our customer’s requirements for their packaging operations were for employees with highly sought-after skill sets. Employees in this area need to develop a strong understanding of the customer’s technical requirements, systems and processes, so retention of these employees is important. This requirement is also made more difficult because the number of employees needed in each department is subject to seasonal variation.

To ensure our customer’s resource needs are met at all times, Programmed manages a roster of over 150 employees. We do this by anticipating and planning for the traditionally low-volume periods experienced by the packaging department, and then rotating these employees to assist with the peak requirements of the vintage season. These employees then return to the packaging department after the vintage season has concluded.

The practice of rotating employees across departments has proven very successful in retaining key skill sets, which in turn maximises productivity and reduces new recruit training costs.

As an example, one of their vintages was extremely successful in the cellar with 60% of the 75 staff returning from the previous year thereby maximising productivity and saving costs.

Product employees working in administration roles are also re-deployed to other departments after the completion of the vintage, providing continuity of staff and increasing productivity due to their retained knowledge of our customer’s specific computer systems.
